Puppets and Masters…

This just in:  My two greatest fears are (1) That there are Puppetmasters – powerful people that control us from behind the scenes and (2) No Puppetmasters exist and we truly are as rudderless as we appear to be.

Here are some examples of Puppetmasters:  Grover Norquist who appears to be the mastermind of No Taxes and thus, the person behind the stalemate in Congress.  The Pope who seems to be saying that he knows what God wants and as God’s mouthpiece, he tells people how to behave, vote etc.  The Koch brothers who are buying elections across the country in an attempt to create a legislative environment that will support the dirty energies of coal and oil.

If these really are Puppetmasters, we then know who is pulling our strings.  We can only hope that they know what they are doing.

But suppose these are just ordinary people.

The Pope is just a guy.  The Koch brothers are just rich and Grover Norquist found a way to make himself some money.

This is what I believe…

There are no Puppetmasters.  However, there is no shortage of those that are posing as such.  The Pope really is just another guy in a robe.  The Koch brothers are greedy and Grover Norquist gets off on manipulating people.

That leaves just you and me to determine what is right and wrong.  We get to choose where we go as a country; as a race of people.

We get to choose freedom or fear.

We get to be proactive or passive.

We get to create our world or to live in a world created by others.

If I am right, then we are in trouble.  We are in trouble because that means we are puppets without masters.

Too many of us listen to the posers and nod.  We are lazy.  We are submissive.  And above all, we are afraid.

We are afraid of a God that I certainly didn’t vote for.  We are afraid of Gays and Lesbians.  We are afraid of paying for things like schools and health care.  We are afraid of a mud-dwelling population in Iran.  We are afraid of the rich, and the poor.  We are afraid of Muslims and Mormons.  We are afraid of people whose skin is different from our own.  We are afraid of immigrants.  We are afraid of change as well as the status quo.

We are afraid to not be afraid.

This is saddening if it weren’t for one particular fact: If you merely choose to do so, you can shed fear faster than you can take off your socks.

Don’t be afraid of change.  Evolution is what makes us who we are.  We grow up, we experience…we change.

Don’t feel helpless.  Pay attention and get involved.  Comment on a blog.  Take a stance.  Be open minded and allow your mind to be changed – or change someone else’s mind.  Allow yourself to be wrong from time to time.  Make mistakes and move on.

Being a puppet creates a role that you don’t want to be filled – The PuppetMaster.

I’ve been very busy lately so I apologize for my lack of blogging.  Thanks for hanging in there with me.

Now…time to save the world.

Up, up and away…

Jim
